What is a laneway suite?
A laneway suite is a detached backyard home on a lot that abuts a public laneway — common in older Toronto neighbourhoods. It's the same idea as a garden suite, with different setback and fire-access rules. Toronto laneway suites allow 1m rear and 0m side setbacks with 4m separation from the main house, versus a garden suite's 1.5m rear and 4m separation.
